The Opera instruction trained Fen to portray the female characters, mainly because of Fen's slender built, and feminine mannerism. During a performance wearing heavy makeup, wig, and female character's wardrobe, Fen met eyes with Charles, who was sitting in the audience. Both Fen and Charles are attracted to each other, and have gotten to know each other after the performance (where Fen stayed in the female character). Fen struggles to find the courage to reveal himself underneath the hair and makeup; and the fear of what Charles might react after finding out he is a gay man. Dance experience a plus, but not required (as the talent will need to learn few Peking Opera movement and routines). Mandarin Chinese speaking ability a plus but not required (as the talent may need to sing/say a few lines in Chinese). Must be comfortable with Peking Opera Hair & Make up (reference to the in Cheng Dieyi 's look in the film 'Farewell My Concubine') Kindly note experience in submission note. CHARLES 18-28 / Male / Caucasian Physically appears late teens. Stumbles upon a Peking Opera performance while wondering in Chinatown. He was fascinated by Princess Gai Fei, the 'female' performer on stage. As soon as the performance ends, he seeks the opportunity to introduce himself to the Princess. LAO 40-70 / Male / Asian The head of the Peking Opera theater. Eager to promote the show to get more audience members. Seems more passionate with sharing Peking Opera to the world than making monkey. He's also Fen's mentor - and hair/makeup person before the show. TICKET MAN 21-50 / Male / Asian Works at the box office of the Peking Opera theater. A real multitasker; not only he works at the ticketing office, he also passes out flyers on the street. Anything he can do to fill the theater. |
